How Dental Insurance Works

No two dental plans are exactly alike, so you should be sure to set aside some time to learn about your unique coverage. In the meantime, we can provide an overview of the coverage that is common among many PPO plans:

• Preventive care is usually 100% covered.
• Minor services are often 80% covered.
• Major services may be up to 50% covered.

The services that fall into each of the above listed categories can vary between insurance companies, so again, it is important to learn about your specific plan. You may also be responsible for paying a deductible and other additional fees.

What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?

Dental and medical insurance have different focus points. Medical insurance covers systemic health, but it does not usually apply to services like cleanings, checkups, fillings, and crowns. Dental insurance does often cover such services. In fact, it encourages patients to be proactive about preventing oral health problems.

In certain cases, there is slight crossover between dental and medical insurance. For example, they might both cover some types of oral surgeries.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

Whether our practice is in your insurance network or outside of it, you may be able to use your benefits when you come to visit us.

In-Network Coverage

When we choose to be in-network with a specific insurance plan, it simply means that we have a contract that manages prices and encourages certain standards of care. Often, out-of-pocket fees are lowest for patients at in-network practices.

Out-of-Network

If you have a PPO dental insurance plan, you are able to use your insurance at virtually any dental practice in the U.S., regardless of network status. Even if we are not in your insurance network, we still warmly invite you to visit us. You may be able to enjoy many of the same benefits here as you would at in-network practices. Remember, the important thing is to visit a dental team who is worthy of your trust!
